I almost DNF’d this one early on—Ember’s first meeting with Thorne felt a little rushed, and I wasn’t sure I’d connect with the story. But I’m so glad I stuck with it. Ember gets pulled away from her family when her estranged father gives her an impossible choice: go with him or watch her loved ones get arrested. That moment really hit me, and from there, things get intense fast.

Thorne is your classic bad boy with a serious attitude problem, and of course, Ember can’t help falling for him—again and again—even when he’s a total jerk. She’s constantly facing enemies around every corner, but there's also this deeper mystery brewing in the background. Malcolm and Thorne’s dad are definitely hiding something, and I need answers!

I'm really looking forward to book two to see how Ember fights back, heals her broken heart, and hopefully uncovers some of those secrets. Bring on the drama and rebellion.
