Physical Books vs. Kindle: Why I Made the Switch (Sort of)

If you had asked me a few years ago, I would’ve answered without hesitation—physical books all the way. There’s just something magical about holding a book in your hands. The weight of the pages, the soft crackle of the spine opening for the first time, even that comforting paper-and-ink smell. I love seeing books stacked on my nightstand or lined up on my shelves like little trophies of stories lived and loved.
But then… life happened. Or more accurately, aging eyes happened.
Lately, those teeny tiny fonts in physical books are starting to feel more like eye exams than relaxing reading. I found myself squinting, tilting the book under every lamp in the house, and re-reading the same sentence three times because my eyes were too tired to focus.
Enter: my Kindle.
Honestly, I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do. But now? Total game-changer. I can make the font as big or as small as I need, adjust the brightness depending on where I’m reading, and even highlight and take notes without feeling like I’m "ruining" a page. Plus, it’s light enough to hold with one hand—perfect for cozy reading sessions in bed or on the go.
So while my heart still belongs to physical books, my Kindle is my practical, ride-or-die reading companion these days.
It’s not about replacing one with the other. It’s about embracing what works for where I am in life right now. And right now? That’s a big-font, backlit, Kindle-lovin’ season.
Are you team physical book or team e-reader? Or maybe a mix of both like me?
Let me know in the comments—I love hearing how other readers make their reading work for them.
